Colombo [ Sri Lanka], December 9, (ANI), Sri Lanka Schools closed due to high levels of air pollution as Cyclone Mandous passed close by the coast, raising strong winds & rain.
Al Jazeera reports that the sky became blue in Sri Lanka’s Capital Colombo and other cities due to sporadic rain. Children and seniors were advised by health officials to stay indoors.
According to Daily Mirror, the weather forecast for Sri Lanka predicted that heavy rains could occur in Anuradhapura and Trincomalee. Chengalpattu and Villupuram are the districts on alert.
It is likely that it will maintain its intensity as a Severe Cyclonic storm until the early morning of December 9th, and then gradually weaken into a cyclonic hurricane thereafter. It will move west-northwestwards, crossing north Tamilnadu, Puducherry as well as the adjoining south Andhra Pradesh coastlines between Puducherry & Sriharikota in Mahabalipuram, as a severe cyclonic thunderstorm with a maximum sustained winds speed of 65-75 km/h gusting up to 85 km/h during the night, officials stated. According to officials, “It is likely that it will reduce to light to moderate rainfall at most locations with heavy to very severe rainfall at isolated places likely over northern Tamil Nadu on the 10th of December 2022.” Please note the flight cancellations at Chennai Intl Airport on 09/12/2022 due to severe weather conditions.
