Brazil’s former right-wing President Jair Bolsonaro and his supporters stormed many important buildings across the country. This was just a week after LuizInacio Lula Da Silva, a leftist, assumed office as the new president. In disturbingly similar circumstances to the events at the United States Capitol two years ago, thousands of supporters of Brazil’s former president Jair Bolsonaro stormed the country’s Congress and Supreme Court as well as the presidential buildings in Brasilia.
Three buildings, which were believed to be empty, were attacked by thousands of protesters on Brasilia’s Three Powers Square. They were surrounded by security guards and windows broken, and all three were stormed. Some of the protesters demanded military action against Lula and Bolsonaro.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted his concern about the events. He said that everyone must respect democratic traditions.
I am deeply disturbed by the news of violence and vandalism against State institutions in Brasilia. Everybody must uphold democratic traditions.
The demonstrators were former president Bolsonaro’s far-right supporters. They challenged Lula’s election win on 30 Oct 2022. Bolsonaro narrowly lost to Lula in last year’s run-off election.
Bolsonaro’s followers gathered in front of military bases all over Brazil to protest Lula’s return to power. This was the first time they had seen them.
Bolsonaro’s supporters included truck drivers, who also blocked roads across the country following his defeat. Bolsonaro supporters called for an armed force intervention. Protests were organized across the country by Bolsonaro supporters in November.
Brazilians demonstrated outside a military installation in the region to protest what they claim was an unfair or fraudulent election.
Many demonstrators believed that a report by the Ministry of Defence, which Bolsonaro tried to include in overseeing this election, would support them.
The document was published in November and made changes to some electoral system flaws in Brazil. However, it did not find any proof of fraud.
Domingues Carvalho, 63 years old, protested 15 days straight and told the AP news agency that he was fighting for his country, his daughter, and her three grandchildren.
He also said that he has been known to kneel in front the military building to offer prayers. “I’ll be here as long as it is necessary. “We are peaceful, but we will never, ever abandon our country to communists,” he stated.
George Washington de Oliveira Sousa (a man by the name of George Washington de Oliveira Sousa) was detained Christmas Eve after he attempted to detonate the bomb to protest the Brazilian election results. An extract of his police report revealed that he was motivated in assembling an arsenal by Bolsonaro’s support to arming civilians.
Brazilian police also detained four individuals in connection to an alleged coup attempt on the 29th of December, as part of rioting by Bolsonaro followers.
Lula was elected president on the 1st of January. He stated that democracy had won the election decisively at the time. Yet, he is now the head of a divided country.
Things weren’t always so. It was 2011, and 83% supported his decision to retire. Due to a series of controversies, his corruption conviction was later overthrown.
Bolsonaro’s followers finally stormed The Brasilia Capitol and ransacked it on 8 January.
President Lula accused Bolsonaro directly of violence. Bolsonaro was accused of having “triggered” violence. He encouraged attacks on the three power at all costs. Lula, in a speech to his nation, stated that this was also His responsibility, according to The New York Times.
According to the BBC Lula declared a “state of emergency” allowing the federal government take “any necessary” measures to restore order in the capital. Justice Minister Flavio DINO announced that an investigation would be launched. Chief Justice Rosa Weber of the Supreme Court said that everyone responsible for security in Brasilia would also be under investigation.
After arriving in Florida in December 2013, the former president is now reported to be there. According to the New York Times he is currently staying in a vacation rental house owned by a professional mixed martial artist in Orlando. He had planned to stay there at least one month.

Bolsonaro had asked his supporters to keep their heads up during his final days as president, but Sunday’s developments suggest that this appeal was perhaps too late. He tweeted on Sunday night that “Peaceful demonstrations are part democracy, in the shape of the law.”
