Monday’s Kremlin statement said that any attempts by France or other Western countries to provide weapons to Ukraine — including light tanks – would only make things more difficult for Ukrainians.
Dmitry Peskov, Kremlin spokesperson, stated that “Fundamentally these deliveries cannot or will not change anything… (they/they) can only prolong Ukrainian suffering.” He spoke out to reporters to answer a question about France’s decision last Wednesday to send armoured cars to Ukraine.
Last week, the French President Emmanuel Macron promised to send light tanks and other equipment to Kyiv.
France will be the first Western nation to send tanks to Ukraine by supplying the AMX-10 RC, a lightweight model that has served since the 1980s.
The Kremlin stated that President Vladimir Putin (and President Macron) remain in contact.
Mr. Peskov stated that leaders having contact has been very useful, “despite deep differences.”
After President Macron pledged to send tanks in Kyiv to his troops, Olaf Scholz, the German Chancellor, was again urged to send tanks to Kyiv.
